Name writing!

Are your little guys struggling with name writing as much as my kiddos are?!

I've got kids ALL over the spectrum - many who cannot grip a pencil correctly, write their name, or recognize any letters. Then I have a kid who (I have not formally assessed yet) can read at least a first grade if not higher level!

Lots of work to do this year, friends - lots of work!!

I am anxious to get everyone assessed so I can see exactly where we are sitting!

In the mean time, we'll be working on writing our names A LOT! I love word play, and I am so lucky to have a Smart Board in my room this year! (we did not get them until the last few weeks of school last year, so I didn't have a lot of time to use it) Starting out every morning for word work we are going to sort names by letters into a t-chart on the smart board. (For example: Do you have a "B" in your name? And then yes/no on the t- chart) EASY to change daily without a lot of work on my part, and it will really make my kids think about ALL of the letters in their name and not just the beginning letter. I have multiple kids with the same beginning letter and they're always moving the wrong name when it comes to lunch choice, etc.

I created this little cut and paste activity for us to do in stations this week:
Sorting letters in your names and letters not in your name! It couldn't be any easier than that! :)) I did create 2 different sizes of letters - you can choose which set to use. I wasn't sure if the bigger set would all fit on the page. Just cut in half so each kid gets one whole set of the alphabet.

Hopefully you can use it in your class, too! Let me know if you snag it! :)
