Food for thought - "The Fred Factor"

Oh. my. goodness, ya'll... I am exhausted!
For the past 3 days I've been in my district's leadership conference. You know how it goes... keynote speakers, break out sessions, working with your teams. With all of the cuts that have been made in education, our Superintendent puts the utmost value on professional development. Think about how insightful, meaningful professional development inspires you to go back and implement all these new ideas or techniques or simply gives you that "new beginning" feel that was just what you needed. I'm so grateful that she believes this and gives us the best tools that we can use to be better at what we do - because that's what we all really want, right?! We share on these blogs because we love learning and sharing from and with each other.

I wanted to share with you one of the keynote speakers that visited with our district today. His name is Mark Sanborn and he is the author of "The Fred Factor." This book is about being passionate in what we do, and how to be a great leader. Now, as a classroom teacher, we have 20-25 kids looking up to us EVERY single day. WE have the opportunity to make the difference and to add value to each child's life. There is no other profession that can make such a profound impact on so many people over the course of a career. Does that call on us to be leaders? Absolutely.

Watch the video to hear the story about "Fred"

Check out the book, too! I'm going to start on it tonight!

  1. That sounds really inspiring! Despite all of the obstacles that we face as educators, we DO have children that look up to us and depend on us to give them the best education possible!

  3. Thank you for posting this video. I am downloading or buying the book tonight. Our district does NOT (sadly) put $$ into prof development. I know many teachers who could benefit from hearing someone like this speak. Thank you for inspiring me to improve myself.
