Monday!! Made it!

Happy Monday friends!
I'm linking up with Tara at 4th Grade Frolics for her very FIRST Monday Made it! series!! woot woot!
Last week I asked you guys what you thought I should do with these:
Chair pockets!!
I got some great responses... ribbon, rick rack (uhmmm LOVE!), iron on patches..
I looked around and couldn't find anything I was in LOVE with, so (of course...) I decided to make my own applique! I've played around with appliques a lot - I make shirts for my kids all the time for birthdays, holidays, etc. I made these shirts for Christmas last year:
{aren't they the cutest?!}

I have an owl theme in my classroom, SO I made a cutie patootie little owl applique to decorate the pockets! Here's a little tutorial:
First {using this template I made} trace the pieces onto some "Steam a Seam"
 Next, peel the backing off of the steam a seam and place the template on the back side of your fabric. Cut out your shapes.
 Peel off the backing and arrange how you want them on you pocket (or t-shirt, etc... whatever you will iron the applique onto)
Place a piece of fabric (or towel) on top of the applique. Iron over the applique - about 30 seconds.
 Then pull back the fabric and ta-da!! Your cute little owl awaits you!
 I really would still like to add some ribbon or something else, but I figure the owls will be a lot of work themselves, so why make it more of a hassle for me?! {My sister doesn't know it yet, but when she comes in town she will be helping me make 19 more of these! ha!}
Aren't they cute?!

If you want the template I made, here it is! You could always use it for paper, too!
I'm also linking this template  to Classroom Freebies Manic Mondays!

  11. Oh my gosh! Precious!

    I made chair pockets years ago and threw them away after about 5 years of good use. This makes me want to tackle that project again :)
